Have You Stopped Sinning?

(The following is a dialogue between the Bible and a sinner. The superscripts are references to verses in the Bible. You will find these references at the bottom of this page. Please read them.)

Bible: Go and sin no more.1

Sinner: But everyone has sinned!

Bible: That's right. All have sinned2 (past tense) and now God commands everyone to turn from their sins3. He commands you to come to your senses and stop sinning4.

Sinner: That's impossible!

Bible: All things are possible through Christ5 for anyone who believes. God has given us everything we need to live a godly life6. He promises that you will never be tempted more than you can handle7.

Sinner: But I have a sinful nature! I won't be able to stop sinning until I die.

Bible: You are not controlled by the sinful nature but are led by God's Spirit, if his Spirit is really in you8. Those who belong to Christ have put to death the sinful nature along with its desires9. Stop sinning or something horrible will happen to you10.

Sinner: Hey, if you are referring to hell, I'm already a Christian. I've been "born again." I know Jesus!

Bible: Whoever is born of God does not continue in sin11. Whoever keeps on sinning does not know him12. Those who sin are slaves to sin13 and they serve the Devil14 because they do his will. There will be many who call Jesus their Lord but won't get into heaven because they continued in sin15.

Sinner: You are judging me!

Bible: This is the Word of God-it judges the thoughts and attitudes of your heart16. No sinner or anything impure-will enter the kingdom of heaven17.

Sinner: If I can stop sinning then why do I need Jesus?

Bible: You can only stop sinning through faith in Jesus. He died for you so that you would stop sinning and live for what is right18. God's grace that brings salvation teaches us to say "no" to sin and to do what is right in this present world19. Only by accepting God's grace and what it teaches will you stop sinning and have eternal life with God.

Sinner: But my pastor says that I can't stop sinning!

Bible: There are many false teachers20 who have a form of religion but deny God's power to make them godly21.

Sinner: So I need to believe God, rather than people.

Bible: Yes, believing God is the key! Without faith it is impossible to please God22. The TRUTH will set you free from sin23.
